Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg unit requiring level 1 trauma experience and prior travel nursing experience.

Details

• Acute care setting on a 54-bed Neuro Med-Surg unit with 2 semi-private rooms
• Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and other neuroscience diagnoses, with some medical overflow
• Day shift ratios of 1:4-5, night shift ratios of 1:5-6
• Charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7
• Nurse aides/patient care techs on unit with ratios of 1:9-10 days/evenings and 1:10-12 nights
• House-wide telemetry monitoring using Phillips monitors, nurses not required to read strips
• High flow oxygen used rarely for stable COVID patients
• EPIC EMR used
• 12-hour day shift schedule
• Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) required
• Every other holiday required
• Floating required in rotation with staff, primarily to general unit floors
• No call or standby requirements

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Level 1 trauma experience required
• Previous travel nursing experience required (no first-time travelers)
• Prior experience on a dedicated neuro unit required
• Heparin drip titration experience required, including titration based on PTT
• Negative drug screen required for all panels

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care for neuroscience and medical overflow patients on a 12-hour day shift schedule
• Titrate drips including heparin based on PTT
• Troubleshoot respiratory equipment such as high flow oxygen as needed
• 2-day unit orientation including computer and unit-specific training with an educator, plus 1 day with a preceptor
• No scrub color requirement, but tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings are permitted while on duty
