Description
American Traveler is hiring an ICU/PCU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience and an active AZ or compact RN license.
Details
- Multi-acuity ICU/PCU/MST unit with 10 beds within an acute care hospital
- Ratios vary by acuity: ICU 1:2, PCU 1:4, MST 1:5-6, or 1:3 primary care if no nurse aide available
- Common ICU diagnoses include sepsis, suicide attempt, drug/alcohol withdrawal, COPD, respiratory arrest, pneumonia, COVID, and DKA
- PCU patients require non-titratable infusions to manage heart rate or blood pressure
- RNs titrate drips including sedation, vasopressors, and insulin
- Uses Cerner EMR
- Nurse aides typically care for 10-15 patients when available
- Respiratory therapy supports ventilators, BiPap, and CPAP equipment
- Remote monitor techs support telemetry for PCU and MST patients; RNs must read 12-lead EKGs and monitor bedside cardiac monitors for ICU patients
- Charge RN oversees 50 inpatient beds across MST, Pediatric, and the Acuity Adaptable MCU unit
- 12-hour night shifts, 1900-0730
- Every other weekend required (Friday/Saturday for nights)
- Holiday rotation required to distribute holidays fairly
- Standby rotation required during low census periods
- Floating required to EC MST & Pediatric unit and West Campus ICU/PCU with two-hour notice
- Any scrub color accepted except camouflage
Requirements
- Active AZ state or compact (NLC) RN license required, pending licenses not accepted
- BLS and ACLS certification required, pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required; candidates with 1 year ICU and 1 year PCU/Med-Surg from larger facilities with strong skills may be considered
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within two attempts prior to signing contract
- Must pass a Pass/Fail sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on first day of orientation
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care across a combined-acuity ICU/PCU/MST unit without floating between units
- Attend hospital and unit-specific orientation
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, as verified by driver's license address
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit-associated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year; PRN work through outside staffing firms is acceptable
- Cannot have worked in a permanent role at another CommonSpirit facility within the last 12 months
- Failing the dysrhythmia or sterile technique test on the second attempt results in ineligibility with CommonSpirit Arizona and Sacramento facilities for 6 months
- Profile review and manager interview required for consideration
