Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU position requiring 2+ years of ICU experience and prior travel assignment experience with a 48-hour weekly commitment.

Details

• Mixed 39-bed ICU including MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU divided into pods
• Complex ICU patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases with heavy trauma volume
• Diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma
• Cardiac experience preferred including CABG/TAVR 24-48 hr post-op care
• RN to patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, and rarely 1:3 depending on acuity
• 12-hour day shifts totaling 48 hours per week
• Weekend rotation targeted at every other weekend, though not guaranteed
• No on-call requirements
• Floating uncommon unless overstaffed, may float to adult Medsurg/Tele units at a 1:4 ratio
• Support staff includes CNAs, mobility float aides, charge RNs, resource nurses, 24/7 RT, and onsite intensivists/APPs
• Epic EMR and Omnicell used; Alaris pumps transitioning to Baxter pumps

Requirements

• Active RN license (SD or Compact) required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must obtain prior to arrival if not already certified)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, excluding travel experience
• Completion of an accredited nursing education program required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Experience with IV vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics required
• Experience with hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry required
• Strong critical thinking, assessment, and teamwork skills required in a fast-paced critical care setting
• Impella, IABP, and CRRT experience strongly preferred
• Minimum one prior travel assignment required; first-time travelers not accepted

Additional Information

• Provide direct critical care to complex, high-acuity ICU patients across multiple specialties
• May be expected to precept nursing students
• Navy scrubs required
• Free parking available onsite
• Orientation includes hospital and department orientation, iLearns, and multiple shifts of floor orientation
• No RTO permitted during holidays or during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first three weeks of August)
• Time off requests limited to 7 days and must accommodate a full 13-week contract
• Travelers must reside at least 100 miles from any facility within the health system
• Permanent staff must wait one year before returning as a traveler
• Facility is known for being traveler-friendly and frequently renews travel contracts
