Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Surgical ICU position requiring MICU/SICU experience and Trauma Level I background at a critical care facility.
Details
- Surgical ICU (SICU) unit within a Level I trauma hospital's Critical Care Division
- Cares for complex, high-acuity medical, trauma, neuro, and surgical ICU patients
- 1:2 patient ratio
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00-7:30), with block scheduling considered for day/night
- Weekend requirements vary based on unit needs
- Primarily floats within the Critical Care Division, with additional floating to other units based on census needs
- Cerner charting system preferred
Requirements
- Active RN license (MT state license or compact) currently in hand
- Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS required; PALS preferred
- Minimum 1 year of MICU and/or SICU experience required; float pool-only experience does not meet requirements
- Trauma Level I experience required; Trauma Level II experience preferred
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Skilled in IV therapy, arterial line management, central line and PICC line care, blood product administration, and TPN/lipids administration
- Experience with ventilator management, ABG interpretation, and care of ventilated patients
- Experience managing neurological conditions including CVA/stroke, EVD, ICP monitoring, and traumatic brain injury
- Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips and administering continuous IV sedation
- References required for consideration

- Provides independent, competent care for high-acuity trauma, neuro, and surgical ICU patients
- Works within a collaborative Critical Care Division team structure
- Candidates must live within a 75-mile radius; local candidates not accepted
- Background check hits considered on a case-by-case basis
- Former permanent employees must have a 2-year break in employment before eligibility
- This is not an entry-level position and requires demonstrated independent ICU competency
- First-time travelers are not specifically excluded but must meet the required experience threshold
