Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department float pool position requiring a Colorado or compact license and 2+ years of ED experience.

Details

  • Acute care Emergency Department float pool position covering multiple facilities within the Colorado Springs Zone 1 region
  • Float pool requires working across Penrose Hospital, St. Francis Medical Center, St. Francis InterQuest, St. Mary Corwin, and St. Thomas More
  • No home base facility; scheduling follows either a single-facility weekly format or Just-In-Time assignment with 1-2 hours notice
  • Treats 40-168 ER patients per day depending on location, with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 based on acuity
  • Common diagnoses include abdominal pain, diabetes, NSTEMI, pneumonia, trauma, stroke, and hypertension
  • Uses standard ER medications and drips
  • Facilities vary between Trauma Level 3 and Level 4, with most serving as STEMI and Stroke receiving centers
  • RNs must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips independently as no monitor tech is present
  • RNs will be trained to perform Point of Care lab testing
  • Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
  • 12-hour shifts, evening and night rotation (3p-3a)
  • Weekend requirement of every other weekend or equivalent within a 6-week scheduling cadence
  • Holiday requirement of every other holiday
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

  • Active Colorado or Compact (NLC) RN license required, pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department experience required
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS, and TNCC (all AHA where applicable), active and not pending
  • Must be able to interpret telemetry strips independently
  • Driver's license copy required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care in a fast-paced ER float pool environment across multiple facility types
  • Techs support unit secretary duties and assist nurses with patient care and triage
  • Charge nurses take patient assignments
  • Navy blue scrub color required
  • Unit-specific orientation is 2-3 days with general orientation totaling 12 hours
  • Must be available in-state for orientation week, even if initial modules are remote
  • Travelers are responsible for securing housing that allows them to float throughout the full 60-mile Zone 1 radius
  • Must reside at least 60 miles from the Colorado Springs zone center to be eligible for this position
  • Cannot miss more than 3 shifts during the 13-week contract
  • Two weeks' notice required to avoid contract cancellation penalty
  • Candidates who have worked directly for any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year are not eligible
