Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level I Trauma Emergency Department position requiring TNCC, ACLS, and BLS certifications along with a CT or compact RN license.
Details
- Level I Trauma Center Emergency Department in a large academic medical center
- General ED serving combined adult/pediatric patients
- Night shift, 4x12 hours (7:00pm-7:00am)
- Average patient ratios of 1:6 for both days and nights
- Every other weekend required
- Cross-training and floating to other campuses and ED observation required
- Epic EMR used for charting
- No on-call requirements
- Guaranteed hours included
- Open to block scheduling accommodations
- Travelers are not assigned to trauma/rescue rooms, triage, or locked behavioral health units
Requirements
- Active CT or compact RN license required (pending license accepted)
- BLS, ACLS, and TNCC certifications required
- ENPC, CPI, NIHSS, and PALS certifications preferred
- Minimum 2 years of ED experience required (1.5 years considered for candidates from Level I trauma or similar large facilities)
- Level I Trauma Center experience required
- Level II Trauma Center experience preferred
- Epic charting experience preferred, especially for candidates from large urban hospitals with 500+ beds and EDs larger than 60 beds
- Teaching hospital and community hospital experience preferred
- Skills in IV therapy, arterial line management, central line care, and blood product administration required
- Experience managing psychiatric patients, including acute psychosis, suicidal patients, and violent behavior
- Respiratory care skills including BiPAP/CPAP management and interpretation of ABGs required; intubation and ventilated patient care preferred
- Experience with emergency medications, IV vasopressors, and continuous IV sedation/paralytics required
- Neurological care experience including CVA, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury required; ICP monitoring preferred
- Cardiac monitoring skills including 12-lead EKG acquisition and dysrhythmia management required
- Experience managing shock/trauma cases such as gunshot wounds and traumatic amputations required
- Orthopedic splinting skills required; ortho trauma experience preferred
- 1 professional reference required
- Flu vaccine required with no declinations accepted
- COVID vaccine and booster required, with only religious or medical exemptions accepted
Additional Information
- Provide emergency nursing care across a wide range of trauma, psychiatric, respiratory, cardiac, and neurological cases
- Participate in cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and management of multisystem organ dysfunction
- Assigned to one primary campus with possible rotation to other campuses and ED observation units
- Travelers are obligated to participate in natural disaster or other emergency response activities as needed
- RTO greater than 7 days requires facility approval
- Previous perm staff must be separated from the facility for at least 2 years before returning as a traveler
- Local candidates are not accepted unless within specific exception criteria; candidates within 75 miles are not eligible for travel rates
- First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
