Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a night shift acute care position requiring active IL RN licensure and BLS certification.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg unit with 29 beds and a mix of private and semi-private rooms
• Typical census of 22-26 patients with a target of 25
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights
• Patient population includes GI bleeds, sepsis, cellulitis, CHF, COVID, comfort measures, osteomyelitis, elderly fall patients, DVT, and pulmonary embolisms
• RNs required to titrate Heparin drips
• 24-hour Charge RN and Crisis RN coverage with an administrative supervisor available as a resource
• 24-hour PCT coverage with a 1:10 PCT-to-patient ratio
• No ventilators on unit; patients may require oxygen up to 6L NC or stable BiPAP/CPAP
• Telemetry monitored remotely by house-wide department using Philips equipment
• 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a) with shift report at 7a and 7p
• Every other weekend required (Fri/Sat for night shift)
• Rotating holiday coverage required
• No call or standby requirements
• Travel RNs float first to other similar med/surg units, excluding ICU and chemo patients
• Uses EPIC EMR

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• EPIC EMR experience preferred
• Must be able to attempt IV starts using unit resources when needed
• Negative drug screen required for all panels

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care for a wide range of medical diagnoses on an acute care Med/Surg unit
• Unit clerk (PCL) provides 24-hour coverage for administrative support
• Inpatient phlebotomy team handles blood draws
• Receive 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation
• Any color scrubs permitted; clinicians must provide their own, no pediatric scrubs
• Local rate applies to clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility, though no radius rule restricts eligibility
• Local candidates accepted
• COVID vaccination not required for this position
