Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring at least 1 year of recent ED experience and a WI or compact RN license.
Details
- Level IV Trauma Center with Level III NICU and Primary Stroke Center designation
- 20-bed ED with 8 overflow beds and 4 CA chairs
- Average of 100-160 patients per day, ranging from neonates to geriatrics with 5-8% pediatric cases
- Common cases include chest pain, dizziness, syncope, strokes, sepsis, ortho injuries, respiratory distress/failure, STEMI, COVID, and behavioral health medical clearance
- RN patient ratios of 1:3-4 on both days and nights
- 12-hour night shift schedule, 1900-0700, working 36 hours/week
- 6-week schedule cycle with 1-2 weeks advance notice
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing
- Telemetry monitoring available bedside and at nurses station, no tele tech on unit
- Floating is based on facility needs; RNs float as helping hands, taskers, sitters, or runners without taking a patient assignment
Requirements
- Active WI or compact RN license required
- 2-5 years of nursing experience with at least 1 year of ED experience within the past year
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS (TNCC preferred)
- Strong IV skills, cardiac rhythm interpretation/monitoring, foley and NGT placement/management required
- Knowledge of STEMI, CVA, and sepsis treatment protocols required
- Experience with medication titration required
- Epic EMR experience required within the last 2 years
- Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Candidate's middle name or initial, date of birth, and last 4 of SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care across a wide range of emergency presentations including cardiac, stroke, sepsis, and behavioral health cases
- Unit support includes 24/7 receptionist/HUC, RT, and hospitalist/PA coverage, an ED Educator Monday-Friday, and a Resource/Flow Nurse during peak hours
- Charge nurse will take patient assignments as needed to cover low acuity patients
- Orientation consists of one shift, including onboarding with the Nurse Manager and Supervisor followed by unit orientation with a preceptor
- Holiday coverage required on a rotating basis (every other holiday)
- Scrubs may be any professional color; camo, denim, and hoodies are not permitted
- Free parking available in the East parking structure
- First-time travelers accepted with 3+ years of ED experience
- No radius rules apply; local candidates accepted at the same rate
- Former employees of Advocate Health or its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for travel assignments
