Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring SD or compact RN license and cardiac telemetry experience.
Details
- Mixed acuity PCU/HVU unit with 44 beds including Intermediate Care, Tele, and MedSurg patients
- Cares for direct admits, ED admits, and post cath lab patients including MI, NSTEMI, STEMI, CHF, dysrhythmia management, and pacemaker patients
- Serves as backup stroke unit and medical overflow
- Manages step-down level patients post cardiac/vascular surgery, post cardiac cath, post open heart surgery, post TAVR, post EP studies, and post pacemaker insertion
- RN to patient ratio of 1:4, occasionally 1:3 depending on acuity
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris pumps, and Omnicell
- 12-hour day and night shifts (0700-1900 and 1900-0700), scheduled as Variables with days or nights per contract
- Every other weekend rotation and every other holiday required
- No on-call requirements
- Floating primarily to sister General PCU unit, and may float to MS/Tele or ICU within scope of practice
Requirements
- Active RN license (SD or Compact) required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 1.5 years of general nursing experience with at least 1 year specific to PCU
- Completion of an approved nursing education program required
- Experience with cardiac procedural recovery (CABG/TAVR/post cardiac cath) required
- Experience with MI pharmacology and titratable cardiac/vasoactive drips (Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Levo, Dopamine) required
- Experience with Heparin drips, cardiac rhythm interpretation, and chest tube management required
- TNK administration experience preferred
- Epic EMR experience preferred
Additional Information
- Support staff includes CNAs at a 1:5-8 ratio, phlebotomy for peripheral blood draws, RT support 24/7, and an in-house hospitalist
- Tele tech oversees cardiac monitoring with RN confirming strips at 6am and 6pm
- May occasionally have resource nurse support
- Orientation includes 2 partial days of education followed by 3 twelve-hour shifts on the unit
- May be expected to precept nursing students
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Free parking available
- Time off requests of up to 7 days approved, with full week requests requiring extension; no time off approved during the first 3 weeks of August due to annual Sturgis Bike Rally
- First-time travelers considered only with 2+ years of nursing experience
- Travelers must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
- Permanent staff must wait one full year before returning as a traveler
