Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position requiring 2+ years of PICU experience and PALS certification.

Details

  • Work in a 16-bed PICU within a 152-bed Level II trauma center with a Level IV NICU
  • PICU beds interchangeable with MedSurg for overflow, mixed with neuro, cardiac, respiratory, and surgical patients
  • Patient population includes respiratory (high flow, CPAP, BiPAP), trachs, chemo, RSV, asthma, and COVID cases
  • Also treats medical patients (MIS-C, new onset diabetes with insulin drips, chronically ill, oncology) and trauma cases (falls, MVAs)
  • Cardiovascular patients with congenital heart defects followed from surgery through discharge
  • Surgical caseload includes appendectomies, g-tubes, ENT, fresh trachs, bowel obstructions, broken bones, VP shunts, cardiac, and neuro cases
  • Does not treat solid organ transplant, major burns, or stem cell transplant patients
  • 12-hour day shifts, 0700-1900 or 1900-0700, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • Floating required to MedSurg, ED, or NICU as Helping Hands or Constant Observer
  • Epic EMR preferred

Requirements

  • Active WA state or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS and PALS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required
  • Proficient in aseptic and sterile techniques, dressing changes, ventilator and trach management, and suctioning
  • Experience with g-tube/j-tube management, feeding tubes, chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, and drip management
  • Skilled in Foley insertion/management and discharge planning
  • CRRT experience with Prismax preferred
  • CICU experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Care for pediatric patients ranging from routine to Stat category 1-3 acuity, with occasional category 4
  • May provide care for patients up to age 30 during rare tier 3 COVID surge situations
  • ECMO cases are managed by a dedicated ECMO specialist
  • CRRT cases require prior Prismax experience and training; typically handled by core staff due to low volume
  • Complex facial wounds, eye injuries, or penetrating trauma are transferred to a Level 1 Trauma Center
  • Scrubs of any color accepted, but no hooded shirts or long sleeves; sleeves must be able to pull above the elbow
