Description
American Traveler is hiring a Cardiac Telemetry RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring 2+ years of telemetry experience and a WV or compact RN license.
Details
- 43-bed semi-private cardiac telemetry unit with 9-10 private rooms
- Average patient ratio of 1:5, flexing up to 1:6
- Common diagnoses include post heart caths, TR bands, CHF, COPD, post pacers, and arrhythmias
- RNs titrate Heparin and occasionally Lasix or Bumex; Cardizem and Amiodarone are not titrated
- Unit serves as the central monitor station for the entire North Tower with monitor techs on staff, though RNs must be able to read strips
- Occasional use of High Flow, Bipap, and Cpap for supportive therapy only
- 12-hour night shifts (1900-0730)
- Weekend requirement is every other weekend for travelers (Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon for nights)
- Uses EPIC EMR
- Floating required within skillset, including possible ICU and Stepdown coverage
- Rare call or standby requirement based on census
- Self-scheduling allowed with block schedule accommodation based on unit needs
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- BLS and ACLS certification (AHA) required
- Minimum 2 years of experience required
- Must be comfortable reading cardiac strips
- Must be comfortable managing post heart cath, CHF, COPD, and arrhythmia patients
- BSN not required
- Unexpired copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Perform RN duties including admissions, discharges, and titration of Heparin and occasionally Lasix or Bumex
- Fast-paced unit with approximately 8-12 discharges and 8-12 admissions per day
- Strong teamwork culture with staff support and a unit clerk available
- Unit is experienced in training new grads and offers a supportive teaching environment
- Orientation includes 1 day of computer training followed by 1 day of shadowing with a preceptor
- Charge nurse coverage is available 24/7, though travelers comfortable with charge duties may be considered
- Scrub color is royal blue; scrub jackets optional but hoodies and sweat-jackets are not permitted
- Holiday coverage may be required for travelers if unit needs are not met by permanent staff
- Local candidates not accepted; must reside 50+ miles from the facility
- Returning WVU Medicine travelers must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers may not work within WVU Medicine facilities for more than a cumulative year without a 2-year break
- First-time travelers and new grads are welcome to apply
