Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Nursing Float Pool position, primarily assigned to the ED Holding unit, requiring PCU or ICU experience and ACLS/BLS/NIHSS certifications.
Details
- Nursing Float Pool position primarily supporting the ED Holding unit with mixed diagnosis patients
- Also floats to support GSH 1 Dally, 2 River North and South, and Float Pool teams
- 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week
- ED Holding patient ratios: ICU 1:2, PCU 1:4, MS 1:5
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing system
- Floating required within scope of practice, including partial shifts
- Isolation and non-ambulatory patients are common in the ED Holding unit
- Fast-paced environment requiring flexibility and resourcefulness
Requirements
- Active WA or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of ICU or PCU experience required depending on unit assignment
- Skilled in cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tubes, lumbar drains, and tracheostomy care
- Experience with IV med titration (Amiodarone, Cardizem, nitro, dopamine, dobutamine, non-DKA insulin, heparin, and occasionally Cardene)
- Strong communication and patient education skills required
- Traveler telemetry competency required during orientation
Additional Information
- Primary responsibilities include patient care in the ED Holding unit and occasional support in PCU, ICU, and MS units
- Support available onsite from RT, hospitalist, and intensivist teams 24/7
- Techs available in ICU (1:14), PCU (1:10), and MS (1:8-10)
- Orientation includes 2 days of hospital orientation and 1 day on the assigned unit
- Schedule provided 3 weeks at a time, distributed about 10 days prior to start of schedule
- No self-scheduling, holiday requests, or on-call shifts required
- Time off requests up to 5 days can be approved locally, with additional days requiring manager approval
- Extended time off requests may require extending the assignment length
