Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position requiring at least 2 years of CVICU experience and an active IL RN license.
Details
- Level 1 trauma acute care hospital setting in a 20-bed, all-private, all-monitored Adult Cardiac Intensive Care Unit
- Patient ratios range from 1:1 to 2:1 depending on acuity
- Patient population includes post open heart surgical patients (CABG, valve, dissections, AAA, carotids), STEMI, unstable angina, cardiogenic shock, cardiomyopathy, severe heart failure, TAVRs, and ventilated ICU overflow patients including COVID cases
- Utilizes specialty equipment including IABPs, Impellas, Swan Ganz catheters, ECMO, external pacemakers, and CRRT
- Manages PICC, midline, CVC, Swan, and arterial lines (radial and femoral)
- RNs titrate multiple drips including dopamine, dobutamine, levophed, epinephrine, neo, vasopressin, cleviprex, propofol, fentanyl, versed, insulin, heparin, and esmolol
- EPIC EMR used
- 12-hour day shifts (7a-7p)
- Works every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday for day shift) and every other holiday
- Floating required to all levels of care, taking a full patient team
- Charge nurse and house supervisor coverage 24/7, with charge nurses occasionally taking assignments
- PCTs on staff with ratios ranging from 1:12-1:15 or higher depending on staffing
- CV APNs/PAs and CCS APNs/PAs typically on-site, with providers on call
- Respiratory therapists on-site 24/7 managing ventilators, CPAP, BPAP, heated high flow, and nitric oxide
- All patients on Philips monitoring with monitor techs available, though RNs are expected to read and interpret their own strips
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- ACLS preferred; CCRN a plus
- Minimum 2 years of recent CVICU experience required
- Must be able to independently manage complex cardiovascular ICU equipment and patient population without additional training
- Strong strip interpretation, assessment, critical thinking, and organizational skills required
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment
Additional Information
- Care for post-cardiac surgical and complex cardiovascular ICU patients requiring advanced hemodynamic monitoring and support
- Provide skilled ventilator management and troubleshoot respiratory equipment as needed
- Follow protocols and physician orders for titratable drips and specialty interventions
- Collaborate closely with charge nurses, house supervisors, APNs/PAs, and respiratory therapists
- No particular scrub color required, but attire must be clean and appropriately fitted; scrubs not provided
- Local candidates accepted with local rates available for those within 50 miles of the facility
- COVID vaccination not required for consideration
- First-time travelers may be considered if they meet the required CVICU experience
