Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring critical care skills and a CA RN license.
Details
- Acute care ICU setting with 20 beds and a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Patients include sepsis, DKA/hyperglycemia, PNA, COPD, PCI cardiac services, CVA, GI bleeds, and post-surgical recovery cases
- Charge nurse assigned each shift as a unit resource, not carrying a patient load
- RT manages ventilators and is available 24/7, along with 24/7 pharmacy and internal medicine hospitalist coverage
- Telemetry monitoring using GE equipment; nurses must interpret their own strips
- 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a)
- 2 weekends required per 4-week schedule
- Holiday coverage required for every other major holiday
- Floating required to Med-Surg Telemetry and Tele floors, with travelers prioritized for floating and assigned 4-5 patient loads
- May be placed on standby status with a 30-minute response time; missed call-ins count as a cancellation
- Unit-specific orientation includes 2 shifts in ICU and 1 shift on the floor
- Uses Cerner EMR
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required (no pending licenses accepted)
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required (CCRN and basic critical care course preferred)
- Strong IV skills required
- Comfortable managing ventilators and applying the ABCDE bundle
- Experience with medications such as Versed, Propofol, and Norepinephrine
- Must be comfortable floating to other units and taking a full patient load
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide critical care nursing to ICU patients, including those recovering from surgery
- May be deployed to the ED to care for boarded ICU patients when needed
- No block scheduling or personal scheduling requests accommodated; travel assignment must take priority over other commitments
- Navy scrub color required
- First-time travelers may be considered
- Travelers have the option to extend up to their one-year mark
- Located near Yosemite National Park and several regional lakes, offering access to outdoor recreation
