Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring critical care/ICU experience and NIH Stroke certification.

Details

• Work in the Chest Pain Observation/PCU unit serving as ICU/PCU overflow with 10 beds
• Patient ratios of 2:1 for ICU-level patients and 4-5:1 for PCU-level patients
• Unit staffed with a charge RN and 5 staff RNs per shift, no unit secretaries or PCTs
• Uses lift equipment, Targeted Temperature Management (TTM), ventilators, and IV pumps
• Documentation via Cerner EMR
• 12-hour night shifts (6:45 PM - 7:15 AM) with every other weekend requirement and holiday support
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required for travelers
• Bedside shift report mandatory; relief charge nurse expected to perform nurse leader rounding

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
• Current BLS and ACLS certification required
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
• Minimum 2+ years of ICU experience in a large facility required
• Comfortable with hemodynamic monitoring and ventilator management
• Advanced skills required: critical care pharmacology (IV sedation, paralytics, vasopressors), advanced hemodynamic monitoring, and central line management
• Must be a strong critical thinker, flexible, and work well with others
• No gaps in work history equaling 90 days or more within the past 12 months
• US Social Security Number and date of birth required for consideration (no Canadian SSN accepted)
• One professional reference required

Additional Information

• Assist providers with bedside procedures such as chest tube insertion and intubations as needed
• Navy blue or white scrubs required
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility; no local candidates accepted
