Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a busy Emergency Department, requiring at least 2 years of ER experience with both adult and pediatric populations.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting in a high-volume Emergency Department seeing approximately 325 visits per day across Adult and Peds ER
- Adult ER has 36 treatment areas and Peds ER has 12 treatment areas plus 8 fast track pods
- Patient ratios: ICU 1:2, Peds 1:4, Adults 1:4, procedural sedation 1:1
- Treats a wide range of diagnoses from minor walk-ins to critically ill patients including respiratory failure, asthma, abdominal pain, fractures, substance abuse, and occasional psych holds
- Adult ER is a STEMI, CVA, and burn receiving center; Peds ER is a pediatric receiving center
- Uses Cerner EMR
- Uses Phillips telemetry with monitor techs, and RT equipment including vents, CPAP, BiPap, and high flow
- Some transport available for X-Ray or CT; phlebotomy handled by dedicated staff
- 12-hour night shifts including 7a-7p, 11a-11p, 3p-3a, and 7p-7a with no block scheduling
- Required to work 4 weekend shifts per month
- Required to float to Peds ER as the first to float, with no floating outside the ER
- No call requirement, but may be placed on standby for low census with a 30-minute response time if called in
Requirements
- Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact) currently in hand
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of ER experience required
- Experience with both Adult and Pediatric ER populations required, as roughly 50% of the patient population is pediatric
- Significant Peds ER experience required for candidates working in Peds ER, not just general pediatric experience
- Triage experience required
- Must be comfortable managing a high patient volume similar to the unit's daily census
- Duo/pair travelers not accepted
- No first-time travelers considered
Additional Information
- Manage own ER holds as they are intermixed within the department
- 3 triage nurses staff the start of each day
- In-house security is available
- Fast track area is staffed by midlevels from 11a-1p and run out of former lobby areas
- A dedicated burn nurse assesses patients as needed in the Adult ER
- Peds ER is staffed by a designated pediatric physician
- ER techs, CNAs, and LVNs support fast track and general ER operations
- Basic EKG interpretation test assigned during orientation; critical care RNs receive additional testing such as STEMI and Procedural Sedation curriculum
- Orientation includes 12 hours
- Expected to work assigned holidays unless they fall during contracted time off
- Dress code requires navy blue scrubs for RNs; no hoodies, sweatshirts, or sweat jackets permitted
- Must not have been directly employed by any facility associated with this health system within the past year
