Description
American Traveler is seeking a Nurse Manager for a Med/Surg Telemetry unit, requiring prior Unit Manager experience in a hospital setting and stroke/telemetry expertise.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting on a 25-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit
- Manager oversees the 8th FL Med/Tele Unit and the ED Hold/Float Pool
- Nurse to patient ratios: Med/Surg 1:5, Telemetry 1:4, mixed acuity
- Common diagnoses include general MS, active stroke post-ICU, COPD, CHF, pneumonia, asthma, polysubstance abuse, diabetes, psych, and some post-surgical patients
- Day shift schedule, 7a-3:30p with 1hr lunch
- RNs are not required to titrate drips, though Heparin is a common titratable
- Tele techs are located on a different unit; RNs print and read their own strips once per shift using Nihon Kohden monitors
- ANCC/Charge Nurse takes a light assignment when necessary
- PCTs support the unit with basic cares, vitals, EKGs, phlebotomy, ADLs, linens, and supply restocking
- Respiratory Therapy is available in-house to administer treatments and manage equipment including Nasal Cannula, Highflow, Home CPAP, and BiPAP
- Scheduling follows a 4-6 week cycle with efforts made to accommodate traveler availability, though block scheduling is not guaranteed
- Every other weekend required
- May be included in holiday rotation
- No call or standby requirements
- Floating required to other Med/Surg Telemetry units and possibly to the Long Term Pulm unit (15th floor), though travelers would not be assigned vent patients there
- Travelers are first to float
- Uses Allscripts EMR
Requirements
- Active NY RN license required
- BLS and ACLS certification (AHA) required
- Facility-specific de-escalation training required
- Minimum 2 years of experience required
- Must have prior Unit Manager experience in a hospital setting
- Must have Stroke and Telemetry experience, including the ability to read and interpret telemetry strips
- 8 hours of stroke education required (facility will provide 4 additional hours)
- BSN not required for this position
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include managing daily unit operations, staffing, and oversight of the Med/Tele Unit and ED Hold/Float Pool
- One day of unit-specific orientation provided with a preceptor
- Royal blue scrubs required
- Cancellation policy allows up to 3 shifts per 13-week assignment
