Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a level 2 trauma center's 29-bed general ICU, requiring advanced critical care skills and ACLS/BLS certification.
Details
- 29-bed general ICU in a level 2 trauma center
- Patient ratios of 1:1 to 1:2, occasionally 1:3 for patients ready to transfer out of ICU
- No CNAs on unit; one telemetry tech available
- Uses Aleris pumps, GE monitors, Edwards EV 1000 and CCO, Primaflex CRRT, and Cardiohelp ECMO equipment
- Documentation via Meditech
- Night shift schedule with three 12-hour shifts per week
- Every other weekend required
- Travelers float first to ED and step-down units
- On-call only required when census drops
Requirements
- Active RN license (ID or compact) required
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- TNCC, NIHSS, and ABLS certifications welcomed but not required
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
- Advanced skills required: vent management, ABG interpretation, vasoactive drip titration, and hemodynamic monitoring
- Experience with intubations, central line placement, bronchoscopies, bedside trach and PEG tube placement
- US SSN and DOB required for consideration
- No employment gaps of 90+ days within the past 12 months

- Unit supports a heart program with approximately 200 cases per year including CRRT, Impella, IABP, and ECMO
- Burn center opened April 2019
- Average ICU staff experience is 12 years
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility; no local candidates accepted

Pros
Management is willing to work with RTO pretty easily. GE machines are easy to use and proximity of ER with CT is set up nicely.
Cons
Communication with management is sometimes awful. Especially with contract extensions. HR also did not pay me for a day due to a missed punch. Instead of contacting me about issues, they just didnt pay me and it took two months to resolve that missing pay.
