Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position requiring an active IL license and prior neuro critical care skills.
Details
- Work in an 18-bed Neuro (Science) ICU within an acute care hospital setting
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2
- Patient population includes ventric, stroke (with/without tPA), and craniotomy/craniectomy patients
- RNs manage titratable drips per physician orders
- Charge nurse and 24/7 house supervisor present on every shift
- Patient care techs staffed at a 9:1 ratio
- RNs troubleshoot RT equipment including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow devices
- Tele techs staffed every shift using Phillips monitors, with RNs required to read and interpret strips
- 12-hour day shift schedule
- Every other weekend required
- Rotating every other holiday required
- Travelers float first, potentially to intermediate (1:3 ratio) or general floor (1:4 ratio) units
- No call or standby requirement
- Uses EPIC EMR
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
- BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA)
- Minimum 1 year of experience required
- Experience with ventriculostomy, arterial lines, central lines, ventilators, and tPA administration required
- NIH Stroke Scale certification required
- Acute stroke management and post-craniectomy care experience required
- BSN not required
- Negative drug screen required for all panels
Additional Information
- Provide critical care nursing to neuro ICU patients including stroke, ventric, and post-craniotomy cases
- Unit-specific orientation totals 20 hours (one 8-hour shift and one 12-hour shift)
- General orientation is 12 hours
- Local candidates within 50 miles are eligible at a reduced local rate
- COVID vaccination is not required
- First-time travelers may be considered
