Description
American Traveler is hiring a Night Shift CT Technologist with Level 1 trauma and Siemens equipment experience for a 13-week assignment at a leading academic medical center.
Details
- Radiology department performing CT imaging in a Level 1 trauma setting
- Operates CT equipment including CT scanner, power injector, laser printer, and patient monitoring devices
- Uses Siemens CT equipment
- Epic EMR used for charting
- Night shift schedule from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
- 36 hours per week, weekends required
- Non-rotating shift
- Float requirement among radiology clinics and divisions as needed
- On-call coverage and flexibility for shift coverage may be required
Requirements
- Graduate of an approved school of Radiologic Technology
- Current Massachusetts State Radiologic and CT Technologist license required (license required if applicable)
- ARRT registration in CT or equivalent required
- BLS certification required (AHA preferred)
- Minimum 2 years experience as a Radiologic Technologist, with at least 1 year in CT preferred
- Level 1 trauma center experience required
- Siemens CT equipment experience required
- Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with patients under physical or emotional stress
- Analytical skills for cross-sectional anatomy and imaging technique knowledge
Additional Information
- Operate CT equipment to acquire diagnostic images according to departmental protocol
- Prepare, position, and immobilize patients, using protective shielding as needed
- Explain exams to patients with attention to physical and emotional needs while maintaining confidentiality and professional conduct
- Perform venipuncture for contrast administration under radiologist direction
- Complete Radiology Information System documentation and transfer images to PACS
- Calibrate and verify equipment operation, reporting malfunctions as needed
- May oversee and instruct technology students in medical radiography, CT, or nuclear medicine
- Participate in quality assurance, quality improvement, and research initiatives
- Attend staff meetings and maintain CEUs per state licensure and ARRT requirements
- Transport and transfer patients per departmental guidelines
- Flu vaccine required with no medical or religious exemptions accepted
- Local candidates accepted with a 60-mile radius requirement from the facility, at a reduced rate

Pros
Paid well when I first started. There are a lot of other travelers so they know the vibes. It’s a teaching hospital which could be a pro and a con. A lot of the surgeons are used to teaching so they’re almost all pretty chill although there’s a few rude ones.
Cons
Expensive city, hard to find housing, expensive parking at the hospital, awful hours (no 3/12s or 5/8s), don’t get placed in rooms a lot of the time and when you do they will put you in cases that aren’t on your skills check list and they will shame you for it instead of utilizing you where you’re proficient. The charges are mostly rude except for a few, the hospital is EXTREMELY unorganized, and no one at the desk knows how to book/schedule cases so it makes every day really stressful and complicated for no reason. Management will straight up lie to your face, and if you work hard, are well liked by surgeons and your coworkers, and do your job correctly, they will resent you for it. For staff and travelers, the management and charges are set on making you miserable for some reason. Most people expect their behavior is union busting tactics, but travelers and scuba are not part of the union, so I’m convinced it’s because they’re all burnt out and a little bit miserable. Just another money focused hospital that doesn’t much care about patient safety. It’s dirty, there’s rats, flies, dirty fridges and because it’s a teaching hospital you have to be hyper vigilant about aseptic technique because no one else in the room much cares if everything is sterile.
