Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital requiring 2+ years of Med/Tele experience and a GA or compact RN license.
Details
- 35-bed Med/Surg Tele unit within a Level 1 Trauma, teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
- Cares for adult patients with acute or chronic disease, post-op surgical needs, and comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, infections, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances
- RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6, with LPN support at 1:4-6 and 2-3 CNAs per shift
- 12-hour day shifts from 7a-7p, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation of 6 shifts within a 6-week period (3 out of 12 shifts)
- Floats to all adult med surg/telemetry units in the hospital
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Philips monitors
- Unit equipped with VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips, cardiac telemetry monitoring, Dynamap portable vital sign monitors, bladder scanners, portable oxygen, external fixators, chest tubes, JP and Hemovac drains, Glucommander, and PCA pumps
- Central Telemetry Unit supports cardiac monitoring
- 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage available
Requirements
- Active GA or compact RN license required
- BLS certification required
- BCR (Basic Cardiac Rhythm) competency required, including passing an EKG competency exam during compliance
- ACLS certification preferred
- Medical-Surgical national certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Skilled in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, Glucommander use, insulin and heparin drip titration, and cardiac drip management for heart rate (not blood pressure)
- Strong clinical assessment skills suited for a Level 1 Trauma hospital setting
- Experience with IV insertion, central line management, wound care, and post-op monitoring required
- Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation skills required
- EPIC EMR experience required
- 1 professional reference dated within the last year required, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care including discharge planning, patient education, and interdisciplinary care coordination
- CNA support available for vitals, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, ambulation, turning, hourly rounding, and patient transport
- Unit secretary support from 7a-11p, with house-wide call secretary coverage overnight
- Charge nurse may carry a patient assignment
- Resource and discharge nurse teams float to support all units
- PICC team available; no dedicated IV team
- Lab collection primarily performed by phlebotomy staff, with CVL draws by nursing
- 1-day facility orientation with educational modules, followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Scrub color requirement: Navy for RNs
- Free parking available on campus, with paid deck parking as an alternative
- Unit culture described as busy with a strong team-based approach
- Must work one day during each major holiday period: Thanksgiving or the day after, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve or New Year's Day
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates accepted with no radius rule and same pay rate as travelers
- Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
