Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg-Tele RN for a float pool position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2+ years of Med/Tele experience and a GA or compact RN license.

Details

  • Float pool position within the Nursing department covering all inpatient Med Surg/Telemetry units
  • Level 1 Trauma, Chest Pain Center, and Stroke Center teaching hospital with 637 licensed beds
  • Individual Med Surg units range from 20-36 beds
  • Patient population includes acute/chronic disease, common comorbidities (diabetes, hypertension, infections, electrolyte imbalances), cardiac patients (post-cath, CHF, a-fib), and post-surgical patients (general, ortho, trauma)
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6
  • 12-hour night shifts (7P-7A), 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts per 6-week schedule
  • No call requirements
  • Required to float to all Med/Tele units in the facility as needed
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
  • Unit-specific equipment includes VS3 vital sign monitors and Nova Glucose Stat Strips

Requirements

  • Active RN license (GA state or compact) required
  • BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg-Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Med Surg certification is a plus
  • Required skills: trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts and IV maintenance, glucommander use, strong assessment and time management, interdisciplinary care coordination, discharge planning, and patient education
  • Telemetry skills required: cardiac rhythm monitoring and interpretation, post-cath care, TR band and groin site management (no sheath pulls)
  • Experience titrating drips required: insulin, heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, milrinone, Digoxin, and nicardipine (HR titration only, not BP)
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care in a busy, team-oriented Med Surg/Telemetry environment
  • Supported by CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, a PICC team, resource/discharge nurses, and 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
  • Central telemetry monitoring team supports cardiac rhythm oversight
  • Orientation includes 1 day of educational modules plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for approximately 75% of major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year's Eve/Day)
  • RTO requests must be approved through the unit manager
  • Navy scrubs required for RNs
  • Free parking available on campus, with optional paid parking decks
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates accepted with no radius rule and same pay rate as travelers
  • Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position
