Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a night-shift position requiring 2 years of experience, NY licensure, and Epic charting proficiency.

Details

• 34-bed Med/Surg Tele unit specializing in joint replacements (hip, knee, shoulder) and general surgical cases (appendectomies, exploratory laps, hernias)
• Also treats medical patients requiring telemetry and is the only M/S unit equipped with wall suction, taking all SBO cases
• Patient population spans adolescents to elderly
• Staffing ratio of 1:9 on all shifts using a care delivery model of 1 RN, 1 LPN, and 1 PCT per 9 patients, with modified teams used as needed
• Night shift schedule, 4x12 hours (19:00-07:00)
• Weekend coverage required every other weekend or 4 weekend shifts per month
• Floating required to other Med/Surg units
• Scrubs must be navy blue and/or white, in any combination

Requirements

• Active NY RN license required in hand
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Epic charting experience required
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Community hospital experience preferred
• Skills required include IV therapy/phlebotomy, central and peripheral line care, PICC line management, blood product administration, and cardiac monitoring/dysrhythmia management
• Experience with respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, high flow nasal cannula, and tracheostomy care
• Experience with wound care/wound vac, isolation precautions/PPE, and IV insulin protocols
• Experience with surgical drains, ostomy care, and orthopedic/ortho trauma patient care

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care for orthopedic, general surgical, and telemetry-monitored medical patients
• Utilize rapid response/code teams and interpret cardiac dysrhythmias as part of unit responsibilities
• Manage IV insulin protocols, feeding tubes, and continuous bladder irrigation as needed
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be considered
• RTO requests must not exceed 10 days
• Previous employees may be considered for rehire after a 6-month system-wide waiting period
