Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced NICU RN for a night shift assignment requiring at least 18 months of NICU experience and an active IN or compact RN license.
Details
- Work in the NICU within the Pediatrics Department of a community hospital setting
- Night shift schedule with 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts
- Patient ratio of 1:3
- Cares for neonates across gestational ages, including <24-28 weeks, 29-34 weeks, and >34 weeks
- Attends high-risk deliveries and supports Mother/Baby and NICU III/IV levels of care
- Required to work every other weekend
- Floating required within the Pediatrics department and NICU, and potentially to affiliate hospitals nearby
- Uses Cerner charting system
Requirements
- Active IN or Compact RN license required in hand prior to start
- Minimum 1.5 years of NICU experience required
- Community hospital experience required; teaching hospital experience preferred
- Required certifications: BLS, NRP or NRP Advanced; STABLE certification preferred
- AHA or RQI certifications accepted if current at time of consideration
- Cerner charting experience required
- Graduated from a nursing program accredited by ACEN or CCNE
- 2 supervisor references required
- Skilled in neonatal procedures including UAC/UVC line management, IV therapy, central line care, and administration of blood products
- Experience with neonatal respiratory support including CPAP, HFNC, oscillators, and ventilator management
- Knowledge of neonatal medication administration including vasopressors, antibiotics, and anti-seizure medications
- Familiarity with neonatal conditions such as NEC, sepsis, and respiratory distress syndrome
Additional Information
- Provide comprehensive neonatal intensive care including respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and neurologic support
- Support high-risk deliveries and manage complex neonatal patient populations
- Perform patient/family teaching and developmental care as part of daily responsibilities
- Assist with procedures such as lumbar punctures and ICP monitoring when needed
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Up to 5 days of non-holiday RTO can be auto-approved; additional time off requires facility approval
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are not accepted for this position
- Former IU Health perm or PRN employees must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler
- Travelers who have accrued 12 months of employment within IU Health must complete a designated break before reassignment, per current policy
