Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Float Pool position requiring at least 1 year of ICU experience and AZ or compact RN licensure.

Details

• Float Pool covering ICU, MedSurg Tele, and PCU units across two hospital campuses, including inpatients holding in the ED
• Acute care setting with Cerner EMR
• PCU nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4; MedSurg Tele ratio of 1:5-6
• Patient population includes geriatric and ortho patients, post-cardiac catheterization, post-MI, and post-CABG (day 3-4) patients
• Required to titrate drips including Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin
• Utilizes CPAP, BiPAP, and Heated High Flow respiratory equipment
• Tele monitoring present with monitor techs supporting PCU and MedSurg Tele; nurses must interpret strips independently
• Night shift, 7p-7a schedule with every other weekend required
• Schedule published 6 weeks out in 4-week blocks; flexibility required
• On-call/standby requirement for shifts with excess staffing, with possible call-in at any point during the 12-hour shift
• Float assignment notification given 2 hours prior to shift via text message
• Nurse aides utilized across all unit settings

Requirements

• Active AZ or Compact RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• Minimum 1 year of ICU experience required
• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within two attempts prior to contract signing
• Must be comfortable managing common titratable drips
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

• Charge nurses are assigned on each unit and do not take a patient assignment
• First day of orientation includes a pass/fail sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
• Orientation includes an 8-hour general hospital day, plus 12-hour shifts at West MedTele and PCU
• Travelers will be included in the permanent staff holiday rotation
• Solid color professional scrubs currently required, transitioning to navy scrubs to align with system guidelines
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the float zone city center
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
• First-time travelers may be considered for this role
