Description

American Traveler is hiring an ED RN for a 16-bed observation unit requiring CT/compact RN license, TNCC, ACLS, BLS, and Level I Trauma Center experience.

Details

• 16-bed ED Observation Unit, a separate location from the Main ED providing non-admitted observation level of care
• Average patient ratio of 1:6 for both day and night shifts
• Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call responsibilities
• Floating within scope required to meet facility needs
• Open to block scheduling
• Uses Epic charting system
• Level I Trauma Center with STEMI and Stroke certification

Requirements

• Active or pending CT/compact RN license required
• Required certifications: TNCC, ACLS, BLS
• Preferred certifications: CPI, ENPC, NIHSS, PALS
• 2 years of ED experience required, though 1.5 years may be accepted from a Level I Trauma Center or with prior travel experience
• Epic charting experience preferred
• Level I and Level II Trauma Center experience preferred
• Community hospital experience preferred
• Experience with psychiatric patients, IV therapy/phlebotomy, arterial line management, central line care, and blood product administration
• Respiratory skills including BiPAP/CPAP management, care of ventilated patients, chest tube management, ABG interpretation, and intubation preferred
• Experience with continuous IV paralytics/sedation, vasopressors, and emergency medications
• Neurological care experience including CVA, ICP monitoring, and traumatic brain/spinal cord injury management
• Cardiac monitoring skills including dysrhythmia interpretation and 12-lead EKG acquisition
• Experience managing gunshot wounds and traumatic amputations
• Orthopedic trauma and splinting skills preferred
• 1 reference required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide emergency nursing care in a Short Term Acute Care, Level I Trauma Center with 1,567 staffed beds
• Care for patients presenting with psychiatric emergencies, trauma, cardiac events, and multisystem organ dysfunction
• First-time travelers considered only if candidate has Epic charting experience
• Candidates not meeting requirements for the main campus ED may be scheduled at the Observation Unit initially, with consideration for other campus EDs after successful completion of a contract
• RTO greater than 7 days requires facility approval
• Returning staff must have been separated from the facility for at least 2 years to be eligible as a traveler
• Local candidates not accepted; candidates must live outside a 75-mile radius of the facility
• Flu vaccine required with no declinations accepted
• COVID vaccine and booster required, with exemptions only for religious or medical reasons
• Must be willing to participate in natural disaster or emergency response activities as needed
