Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a Level 1 trauma acute care hospital, requiring 2+ years of recent ICU experience and NE or compact licensure.

Details

• Med/Surg ICU unit (3N/3S) within a Level 1 trauma, primary tertiary hospital
• 34-bed unit with nurse:patient ratios of 1:1-2 in ICU, 1:4-5 in PCU, and 1:5-6 in Med/Surg
• Adult and pediatric (15+) patient population with diagnoses including neuro surgery, respiratory failure, ARDS, sepsis, stroke, cardiogenic shock, renal failure, general surgery, psych/OD, GI bleeds, and cancer-specific surgeries
• RNs required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
• Utilizes CVPs, Alines, Swans, EV-1000, ICP monitoring, Zoll-Thermoguard, and Bell Mont rapid transfuser equipment
• Draeger heart monitors with centralized telemetry; RNs must read and interpret strips independently (no dedicated tech)
• Charge nurse present each shift and responds to RRTs and Codes
• Nurse aides/PCTs on unit at 1:18 ratio
• EPIC EMR used for charting
• 12-hour night shifts, 0630-1830 and 1830-0630 rotation
• Every other weekend required; holiday coverage 2 out of 3 major holidays or every other, based on unit needs
• Floats to all inpatient units, excluding Maternity/NICU
• 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided

Requirements

• Active RN license (NE state or Compact/NLC) currently in hand, no pending licenses accepted
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required
• Experience reading and interpreting telemetry strips independently required
• Experience titrating drips including vasopressors, sedation, and antiarrhythmics required
• Driver's license required for consideration and residency verification
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility

• Fast-paced unit with fluctuating patient volumes due to tertiary hospital status
• Success on this unit favors nurses with strong critical thinking skills, a positive attitude, and willingness to collaborate
• Navy blue scrubs required per unit dress code
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
• Pass/fail open-book exam on orientation-related skills administered during first week; a 90% score is required to pass
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified via driver's license
• Candidates may not be employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity
• Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront per 13-week contract; additional RTO requests will not be approved after submission
