Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring prior L&D travel experience and AWHONN Intermediate certification.

Details

• Labor and Delivery unit in a short-term acute care hospital
• Facility performs 200-300 births per month
• Night shift, 3x12 hours (19:00-7:30)
• May float to Methodist Hospital ED to provide OB-specific care alongside a primary RN, without taking a primary assignment
• Required to arrive 30 minutes early on first Methodist shift for a brief unit orientation
• Uses Cerner charting system
• Utilizes External and Internal Fetal Heart Monitoring, IUPC placement and calibration

Requirements

• Active IN or Compact RN license required in hand prior to start
• BLS, NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate certifications required
• ACLS, AWHONN Beginner, and AWHONN Fetal Monitoring/C-EFM certifications preferred
• Minimum 1.5 years of L&D nursing experience required, including L&D travel experience
• Cerner charting experience required
• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Skilled in high-risk delivery, VBAC management, IV therapy, and administration of blood products
• Experience managing high-risk conditions including pre-eclampsia, placenta previa, multiple gestation, and preterm labor
• Experience with medication administration including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, and insulin drips
• Two supervisor references required
• RN education must be from a college or university accredited by ACEN or CCNE

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive care across antepartum, labor and delivery, and postpartum stages
• Perform newborn assessments, APGAR scoring, and neonatal resuscitation as needed
• Assist with vaginal and cesarean deliveries, including forceps/vacuum extraction
• Manage pain relief including epidural, general anesthesia, and PCA use
• All travelers are required to float within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Up to 5 days of non-holiday RTO can be auto-approved; additional time off requires facility approval
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local IN residents are not accepted for this position type
• Any former IU Health perm or PRN employee must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler
• Current or past IU Health travelers with 12+ months of cumulative travel employment must complete a consecutive eligibility reset break before reapplying
