Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Neuro RN for a night shift assignment requiring BLS, NIHSS certification, Epic experience, and a VA or compact RN license.

Details

• 30-bed Neurosurgery and Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery acute care unit
• Patient ratio of 1:4
• Night shift, 4x12 hours (19:00-07:00), with options for 36 or 48 hour weeks
• 13-week assignment
• Every other weekend required
• Must work 2 of the 3 winter holidays
• Float required per facility float policy, within scope of practice

Requirements

• Active VA or compact RN license (pending license accepted, must be in hand by the Wednesday before start)
• BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Epic charting experience required
• BSN preferred
• Experience with neurological/psychiatric care, CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury
• Skilled in IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line and PICC line management, and peripheral line care
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, telemetry, and rapid response/code team protocols
• Experience with respiratory care including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and oral suctioning
• Experience with wound care/wound vac and isolation precautions/PPE
• Experience with IV insulin protocols and medication administration including heparin, insulin, and PCA
• Experience with ortho trauma and surgical drain management

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to neurosurgical and ENT surgical patients in an acute care setting
• Maximum of 40 hours RTO approved per 13-week contract, must be disclosed prior to submission
• Christmas RTO cannot be approved
• Any vacation time between sign date and start date must be disclosed to determine start date
• Selected units have a 50-mile travel restriction; this unit is not listed among excluded units
• Previous UVA permanent staff or internal/external travelers must have 1-year separation and leadership approval before returning
• External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days and are ineligible to return once reached
• Specialty-specific orientation modules completed during onboarding
• First-time travelers are not required to have prior travel experience for consideration
