Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg RN for a 13-week acute care assignment on an infectious disease unit requiring EPIC and prior travel experience.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg/Infectious Disease unit with 18 private rooms
• Patient ratios of 1:5-6, or 1:4 for COVID patients, typically staffed with 3-4 RNs per shift
• Cares for patients with infectious diseases, isolation precautions, COVID, MRSA, C-Diff, and other conditions
• No cardiac drip titration required; may administer Heparin and other typical Med/Surg IV medications and antibiotics
• Unit has 24/7 Charge Nurse coverage and 2 CNAs per shift
• No ventilator management on unit; may care for patients on CPAP, BiPAP, or high flow managed by Respiratory Therapy
• Remote telemetry monitored from a separate floor; RNs are not required to read or interpret telemetry strips
• 12-hour shifts, 0700-1930 or 1900-0730 with a half-hour lunch break
• Every-other-weekend requirement (Nights: Fri/Sat/Sun; Days: Sat/Sun)
• Travelers are scheduled based on unit needs, though block scheduling may be accommodated
• Floating required to other Med/Surg units, with travelers floated first; if floated to Telemetry, assignments remain within skillset
• Potential for low census call-off depending on contract terms

Requirements

• Active WV or Compact RN license required
• BLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Strong knowledge of Med/Surg nursing, infectious disease care, and isolation precautions required
• Unexpired copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care for a variety of infectious disease and isolation cases
• Receive 1 day of EPIC orientation followed by 1 day of floor orientation with a preceptor before working independently on day 3
• Holiday coverage may be required depending on unit staffing needs
• Scrub color is royal blue; scrub jackets are optional but must be royal blue with no hoodies or sweat-jackets permitted
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible as a traveler
• Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than a year without taking a required 2-year break
