Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Float Pool RN with 2+ years of experience and ACLS/BLS certification for a 13-week night shift assignment.

Details

• Float pool role covering MedSurg/Tele units in an acute care, Trauma Level 2 hospital
• Most frequently floats to 6N (36 beds) and 7N (29 beds), with occasional floats to 4N (36 beds), 5S (36 beds), 6S (36 beds), and Critical Care (20 beds)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:5-6, occasionally up to 1:7 depending on acuity
• Common patient diagnoses include CHF, cardiac cath, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, ortho, and oncology
• 12-hour night shifts, 7p-7a
• Every-other-weekend requirement, Saturday/Sunday
• Holiday coverage required per perm staff rotation schedule
• Uses EPIC EMR
• Telemetry monitoring via Philips monitors; RN must read and interpret basic strips but will not titrate drips
• CPAP/BiPap respiratory equipment on unit, managed by RT
• CNAs available on all units
• Charge nurse present on every shift; night charge takes patient assignment
• Report to clinical coordinator's office prior to shift for daily unit assignment
• 1-2 shifts of orientation with a preceptor

Requirements

• Active WV or Compact RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Must pass a cardiac rhythm exam upon hire
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
• EPIC EMR experience preferred
• Copy of unexpired driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Assignment length is 13 weeks with a 36-hour per week schedule
• RNs may float to any of the six units within the float pool but will typically be assigned a 'parent unit'
• Royal blue scrubs required
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to qualify for travel assignment
• Former WVU Medicine travelers must complete a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within WVU Medicine facilities for longer than one cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply if they meet experience and certification requirements
