Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Neuro unit position requiring active IL licensure, NIHSS certification, and prior neuro nursing experience.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting on a Medical Surgical - Neuro unit
• Average daily census of 32 with a patient ratio of 1:6-7
• Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM
• Required to work every other weekend
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities as needed
• Uses Cerner EMR

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required at time of application
• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• Cerner charting experience required
• Required experience in Med/Surg setting including telemetry (remote monitoring), rapid response team use, and cardiac monitoring
• Required GI case experience including colostomy and feeding tube care
• Required IV therapy/phlebotomy skills including port access, blood product administration, central line blood draws, PICC line management, and peripheral IV care
• Required medication administration experience with Heparin, Insulin, and PCA
• Required neurological case experience including CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury
• Required experience with surgical drains
• Required respiratory case experience including chest tube management, CPAP/BiPAP, tracheostomy care, and non-invasive airway management
• Required experience with isolation precautions and wound care/wound vac
• Continuous bladder irrigation experience required
• Prior travel experience required
• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level II experience preferred
• OCN certification preferred

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive medical-surgical nursing care to a neurological patient population at a Level II Trauma Center with 372 staffed beds
• Royal blue scrubs required
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• RTO requests of more than 5 non-holiday days require facility approval
• Local candidates accepted with no radius restriction
• Previous permanent or PRN employees of the health system must be separated for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
• Travel pairs are not accepted
• Parking permit required at no cost, arranged during orientation
