Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a night shift position at an acute care Level 2 trauma facility, requiring an active IL RN license and 2+ years of experience.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg unit with 37 beds, a mix of private and semi-private rooms
• Level 2 trauma facility using EPIC EMR
• Patient ratios of 1:4-6 on day shift and 1:5-6 on night shift, with CNA support at 1:10-15
• Common diagnoses include COPD, sepsis, CVA, COVID, pneumonia, and post-surgical cases (hip, knee, cholecystectomy, hernia repair, bowel resection)
• Unit accepts telemetry patients monitored by a central tech, with visualization available on the floor as needed
• Common drips include Lasix and Heparin; no ventilators but does receive BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow patients
• 12-hour night shift schedule, 7p-7:30a
• Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday) and every other holiday if scheduled
• No call requirement
• May float to other units if competent, taking a full patient assignment when floating
• 24/7 respiratory therapy coverage and in-house hospitalist/APN coverage overnight

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
• BLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• EPIC EMR experience preferred
• Must be able to produce a negative drug screen for all panels

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care on a busy Med/Surg unit handling a variety of medical and surgical diagnoses
• Charge nurse support typically available 24/7, though charge nurses may also take patient assignments as needed
• Floor-specific orientation includes 2 days in the department and 1 day of hospital/EMR orientation
• No specific scrub color required; approved OSF logo gear may be worn with scrub pants
• Self-scheduling is limited due to short contract length, with schedules managed by the unit manager while still meeting weekend requirements
• COVID vaccination is not required for consideration
• First-time travelers may be considered for this position
