Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week acute care assignment requiring an active IL RN license and BLS certification.

Details

• Acute Care Med/Surg unit with 29 beds and typical census of 22-26 patients
• Mixture of private and semi-private rooms
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights
• Patient population includes GI bleeds, sepsis, cellulitis, CHF, COVID, comfort measures, osteomyelitis, falls, DVT, and pulmonary embolisms
• RNs required to titrate Heparin drips only
• 24-hour Charge RN and Crisis RN coverage with an administrative supervisor available as a resource
• 24-hour PCT coverage with a 1:10 PCT ratio
• No ventilators on unit; patients may require up to 6L NC oxygen or stable BiPAP/CPAP
• Telemetry patients monitored remotely via house-wide telemetry department using primarily Phillips equipment
• 24-hour unit clerk coverage
• 12-hour day shifts (7a-7p) with shift report at 7a and 7p
• Every other weekend required (Sat/Sun for day shift)
• Rotating holiday coverage required
• No call or standby requirements
• Travel RNs float first to other med/surg-like units, excluding ICU and chemo patients
• Uses EPIC EMR

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 1 year of experience required
• BSN not required
• Must be able to attempt IV starts and utilize unit resources if unsuccessful

Additional Information

• Care for a wide range of medical diagnoses with some patients returning to the unit after surgery or procedures
• Inpatient phlebotomy team handles blood draws
• 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
• Any color scrubs accepted; no pediatric scrubs; staff provide their own scrubs
• Local candidates accepted with a reduced local rate for those within 50 miles of the facility
• No radius rule restricting eligibility
