Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg-Tele RN for a Level 3 Trauma hospital, requiring 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience and a NC or compact RN license.

Details

• 44-bed Medical/Surgical unit within a Level 3 Trauma, Stroke Center of Excellence, Bariatric Center of Excellence, and Chest Pain Center facility
• Cares for adult medical patients with respiratory illness, GI illness, sepsis, CHF, diabetes, placement issues, and behavioral health needs
• RN patient ratio of 1:4-6, increasing to 1:7-8 during surge times
• 12-hour night shifts (1900-0700 or 1845-0700) totaling 36 hours per week on a 6-week schedule cycle
• Remote telemetry monitoring provided for the unit
• Weekend rotation required every other weekend
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required within Region 1 facilities (Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH peds only) as needed within scope of practice
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Patient Safety Net (PSN) monitors
• Unit equipment includes Hoyer lift, EKG, bladder scanner, and vein finder

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
• Skills required include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, wound care, and pleurX catheter management
• Strong communication skills and positive bedside manner required
• At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required for consideration
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct nursing care to adult medical/surgical and telemetry patients, including trach care, chest tube management, wound care, and central line management
• Supported by CNAs trained in additional skills such as foley catheter care, EKG, bladder scans, and peripheral blood draws
• Unit staffed with 24/7 respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage, plus IV/VAT team support for difficult sticks
• Charge nurse available out of assignment when staffing allows; unit secretary present on dayshift only
• Orientation includes NEO, facility flash orientation, and 2 days of departmental orientation with a preceptor
• Travelers expected to work 75% of holidays
• Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays, with any unmet contracted hours added to the end of the assignment
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Positive, busy unit culture with a supportive and collaborative staff

• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
• Previous employees must be separated from any Advocate Health Southeast facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position before returning
