Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Surgical Acute Med/Surg unit requiring an active IL license and at least 1 year of post-op nursing experience.

Details

• 12-hour day shifts (0700-1930) in a 63-bed Surgical Acute unit (49 private, 9 observation beds)
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 4-5 on days and 5-6 on nights, with ratios potentially increasing to 1:6 days and 1:7 nights when needed
• Patient population includes post-op surgical, trauma, and overflow medical patients requiring dressing changes, wound care, IV therapy, pain management, drains, NGs, central lines, and TPN
• Charge nurses (pre-assigned, non-assignment taking) and house supervisors present 24/7
• PCTs support the unit with vitals, accu checks, ADLs, turning, and ambulation at a ratio of 7-10 patients per PCT on days and 10-15 on nights
• Some patients on telemetry monitored via central station; bedside RNs are not required to read strips
• RNs manage inhalers and CPAP placement; RT manages nebulizers and no ventilators are present on the unit
• Uses EPIC EMR
• Every other weekend rotation (Saturday and Sunday)
• Every other holiday rotation required
• No call or standby requirements
• Travelers float first to units with a similar experience level

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required (or in-process application confirmation accepted)
• BLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Post-op surgical care experience and strong critical thinking skills required
• BSN not required for this position
• Must be willing to produce a negative drug screen for all panels

Additional Information

• Provide direct care for post-op surgical, trauma, and medical overflow patients including wound care and central line management
• Unit orientation includes 2 shifts with a preceptor plus one 12-hour shift for EPIC and professional orientation with the unit educator
• Any color scrubs permitted
• Block scheduling may be considered if approved at time of contract; travelers do not self-schedule
• Local rate applies to clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility, though there is no radius restriction on eligibility
• COVID vaccination is not required for consideration
