Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Long Term Acute Care Respiratory Care Unit position requiring 1-2 years of RN experience and a CT or compact RN license.

Details

• Long Term Acute Care hospital setting in the Respiratory Care Unit (RCU)
• 36-bed unit caring for respiratory-focused, vent-dependent patients in a medical (non-traditional Med/Surg) environment
• Patient ratios of 1:9 (day/evening) and 1:12 (night)
• Option to work 8-hour nights (11:00 PM - 7:30 AM) or 12-hour nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
• 36 hours per week over a 13-week assignment
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required to like chronic care units including Respiratory Step-Down Unit (RCU2), SDU, and TRU, with travelers floated first
• May split a 12-hour shift between two units (e.g., 4 hours on one, 8 on another)
• Respiratory Step-Down Unit ratios: 1:9 day/evening, 1:12 night
• TRU (TBI, medically complex chronic care) ratios: 1:7-10 day/evening, 1:12 night
• Registered nurses are not responsible for managing ventilators, as this is handled by respiratory therapists

Requirements

• Active CT or compact RN license required
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• 1-2 years of RN experience required
• Experience with respiratory or vented patients strongly preferred
• Prior travel nursing experience preferred
• Skilled in IV starts, drips, blood administration, EKGs, medication titrations, and glucose monitoring
• Experience with wound vac changes, wound dressings, and wound measurements
• Skilled in trach care, suctioning, straight catheterization, and foley care
• Experience with port access and central line dressing changes
• Must be willing to obtain a flu vaccination or provide a medical declination (personal or religious declinations not accepted)

• Provide direct nursing care to respiratory and chronic care patient populations across multiple units
• Responsibilities include comprehensive wound care, line and catheter management, and medication administration
