Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a high-risk Labor & Delivery unit requiring at least 2 years of L&D experience and the ability to circulate C-sections.

Details

• Family Birthing Center encompassing L&D, Postpartum, and OB units in an acute care hospital setting
• High-risk unit providing couplet care from admission through delivery and postpartum
• 10 L&D beds, 2 OR suites for C-sections, 3 OB-ED/antepartum triage beds, and 12 postpartum beds
• Unit averages 140-165 births per month
• Patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:3-4 couplets, 1:1-2 L&D, and 1:1-3 antepartum
• Common diagnoses include preterm labor, bleeding, inductions, cesarean sections, and hypertension
• RNs titrate drips including Pitocin
• Charge nurse/house supervisor available, generally not taking patients but assisting with break relief
• OB surgical techs support the unit; OB hospitalist in house 24/7, Neonatologist on call 24/7 with daily rounds, and Anesthesia in house 24/7
• No ventilators on the unit
• RNs must be able to read and interpret EKG strips on patients in PACU only
• EFM system used: GE Corometrics monitors with Fetalink surveillance
• Uses Cerner EMR
• 12-hour day shifts starting at 6:45am with bedside report
• Works every other weekend and rotates holidays with staff
• On-call response time is 30 minutes if placed on call
• Floating required to other Sacramento facilities; no in-house floating and mid-shift floats to other facilities are rare
• Scrubs provided

Requirements

• Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact) required, pending licenses not accepted
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, and AWHONN-Advanced (STABLE certification preferred)
• Minimum 2 years of L&D nursing experience required
• Must be comfortable managing all aspects of LDRP care from start to finish
• Must be able and willing to circulate C-sections
• Must be able to float to Mother-Baby units
• Cerner EMR experience preferred
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration to validate legal name
• 2 supervisor references required: one from within the last 12 months worked and one from within the last 3 years worked

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive nursing care across L&D, postpartum, and OB units, including managing high-risk deliveries and couplet care
• May be assigned the NRP/Baby Catcher role for an entire shift depending on staffing needs
• Will work 2 of the 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's); holiday time off requests will be considered but not guaranteed
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity Health, within the past year; PRN employment through outside staffing firms will be considered
