Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring prior L&D travel experience and AWHONN Intermediate certification.

Details

• Work in the Labor & Delivery unit of a short-term acute care hospital
• L&D patient population with 200-300 facility births per month
• Patient ratio of 1:2
• Night shift schedule with 4x12 hour shifts (19:00-7:30)
• Uses Cerner charting system
• May float to Methodist Hospital ED to provide OB-specific care alongside a primary RN (not taking primary assignment)
• Required to arrive 30 minutes early on first shift at Methodist for orientation to unit and supplies
• Floating required for all travelers within the hospital or to nearby affiliate hospitals

Requirements

• Active IN or Compact RN license in hand prior to start date
• Current certifications: BLS, NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate course
• ACLS, AWHONN Beginner, AWHONN fetal monitoring/C-EFM certifications preferred
• Minimum 1.5 years of L&D nursing experience required, including L&D travel experience
• Cerner charting experience required
• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Skilled in NST, EFM, IUPC placement/calibration, and fetal heart rate pattern recognition
• Experience with high-risk antepartum conditions including pre-eclampsia, placenta previa, malpresentations, and multiple gestation
• Experience administering Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, insulin drips, and other L&D medications
• Skilled in assisting with vaginal and cesarean deliveries, VBAC management, and postpartum hemorrhage care
• Newborn care skills including APGAR scoring, neonatal resuscitation, and thermoregulation
• 2 supervisor references required
• Nursing degree from a university accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation
• SSN and DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive labor and delivery nursing care including antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum management
• Assist with high-risk deliveries, fetal monitoring, and newborn care in the delivery room
• Support patients with complex conditions such as diabetes, pre-eclampsia, and substance abuse
• Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• RTO of 5 days or less can be auto-approved; additional time off requires facility approval
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local IN residents are not accepted for this position
• Any prior perm or PRN employee of the health system must be away for 12 months before applying as a traveler
• Current or past travelers with 12 months of accrued travel employment within the health system must take a designated break to reset eligibility
