Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg-Tele RN for a 12-hour night shift position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital requiring 2 years of Med/Tele experience.

Details

• 30-bed Med/Surg-Tele unit within a Level 1 Trauma, Chest Pain and Stroke Center teaching hospital
• Patient population includes heart failure, A-Fib, AKI/CKD, respiratory failure, COPD, asthma, NSTEMI, sepsis, and diabetes
• Care for patients with acute or chronic disease, post-op surgeries, and post cardiac procedures
• RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6, LPN 1:4-6, with 2-3 CNAs per shift
• 12-hour night shifts, 7P-7A, 36 hours per week
• Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts out of 12 on a 6-week schedule
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required to all adult Med/Surg-Tele units in the facility
• Support includes CNAs, unit secretary, charge nurse, resource/discharge nurses, and 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
• Central Telemetry Unit monitors cardiac telemetry
• EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis med dispensing, and Phillips monitors used on the unit
• Additional equipment includes VS3 and Dynamap vital sign monitors, bladder scanners, glucometers, PCA pumps, and suction machines

Requirements

• Active GA or compact RN license required
• BLS certification required
• Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) competency exam required as part of compliance
• ACLS certification preferred
• Medical-Surgical national certification preferred but not required
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg-Tele RN experience required
• Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills for a Level 1 Trauma hospital
• Experience with trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, and glucose/insulin/heparin drip management required
• Experience with IV insertion, central line management, wound care, and post-op monitoring required
• Experience with Foley insertion, care, and maintenance required
• Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation skills required
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
• One professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required

Additional Information

• Provide direct nursing care including discharge planning and patient education, particularly on renal and fluid management
• Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams including RT, hospitalists, and intensivists
• Utilize admission/discharge protocols to support rapid patient turnover
• Facility orientation includes 1 day of educational modules and 2 days of departmental orientation
• Holiday coverage required for approximately 75% of major holidays, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's
• RTO requests subject to manager approval
• Navy scrubs required for RNs
• Unit culture described as busy but team-oriented

• Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
