Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Cardiothoracic ICU RN with a VA or compact license and strong cardiac and neuro critical care skills for a night shift assignment.

Details

• Cardiothoracic ICU setting caring for both ICU and step-down patients under a universal bed model
• Typical patient ratio of 1:1-2
• Night shift schedule (4x12 hours, 19:00-7:30) with 3x12 or 4x12 options available
• 48-hour contracts available with overtime billed after 48 hours
• Every other weekend, floating, and holiday coverage required
• Must work two of the three winter holidays
• Epic EMR experience required
• Block scheduling not available

Requirements

• Active VA or Compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration, no exceptions
• BLS and ACLS certification (American Heart Association only)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
• Minimum 2 years of CVICU/CTICU experience required
• Proficiency in Epic required, no exceptions
• Strong neuro experience required, including post brain surgery and EVD/ventriculostomy care
• Skilled in arterial line, central line, and PICC line management
• Experience with blood product administration and IV insulin protocols
• Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Experience with continuous IV sedation and procedural sedation administration
• Skilled in FloTrac/Vigileo monitoring and interpretation/management of dysrhythmias
• Experience with CABG, IABP, Impella, and pre/post cardiac cath or intervention care
• Experience with post cardiac surgery care, both directly and not directly from the OR
• Skilled in Pulmonary Artery Line/Swan Ganz monitoring
• Experience with CVVHD/CRRT and management of multi-system organ failure
• Experience with CVA/acute stroke management
• Skilled in ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, and high flow nasal cannula (HFNC) care
• Proficient in ABG interpretation and ETT/NT suctioning
• Experience with infection prevention and isolation precautions/PPE use
• Experience managing surgical wounds with drains and wound vac care
• No history of license or background hits permitted
• Unable to accommodate PAPR use for fit testing
• Must pass EKG competency test with 80% or higher, one attempt only, no remediation

• Deliver comprehensive critical care to cardiothoracic ICU and step-down patients
• Located in Coastal Virginia near Virginia Beach and Norfolk, offering nearby outdoor recreation
• 3 hours of pre-start modules required, billable
• Candidates must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
• RTO requests reviewed and approved on a case-by-case basis
• First-time travelers are not preferred for this role
