Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for an Emergency Department position requiring Level I Trauma Center experience and CT or compact RN license.

Details

• Level I Trauma Center emergency department serving a combined adult/pediatric population
• Night shift schedule, 4x12 hours from 19:00-07:00
• Average patient ratio of 1:6 for both day and night shifts
• Every other weekend required
• Crosstraining and floating to other campuses and ED observation units required as needed within scope
• No on-call requirements
• Travelers are not assigned to trauma/rescue rooms, triage, or locked behavioral health units
• Epic EMR used for charting

Requirements

• Active RN license, CT or compact license required
• BLS, ACLS, and TNCC certifications required
• NIHSS, PALS, and ENPC certifications preferred
• CPI certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of ED experience required, though 1.5 years may be considered from a like facility or with Level I Trauma or travel experience
• Level I Trauma Center experience required
• Level II Trauma Center experience preferred
• Teaching hospital and community hospital experience preferred
• Experience with psychiatric emergencies including acute psychosis, drug overdose, and managing violent behavior
• IV therapy and phlebotomy skills including arterial line management, central line care, and blood product administration
• Respiratory management skills including BiPAP/CPAP, ventilated patient care, chest tube management, and ABG interpretation
• Intubation experience preferred
• Experience with emergency medications, continuous IV paralytics, IV sedation, and vasopressors
• Neurological care experience including CVA, ICP monitoring, and neuro-trauma management
• Cardiac monitoring skills including dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and 12-lead EKG acquisition
• Experience managing shock/trauma cases including gunshot wounds and traumatic amputations
• Orthopedic trauma and splinting skills preferred
• Isolation precautions and PPE competency required
• One professional reference required

Additional Information

• Provide emergency nursing care across a broad range of trauma, medical, and psychiatric presentations
• Assigned to one campus with possibility of rotating to other campuses and ED observation units
• Flu vaccine required with no declinations accepted
• COVID vaccine and booster required except for religious or medical exemption
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
• Previous travel experience preferred, though candidates with Epic experience from a large facility (500+ beds, urban location, ED larger than 60 beds) may be considered
• Local candidates not accepted if within 75 miles of the facility
• Former staff must be separated from the facility for at least 2 years before returning as a traveler
• RTO requests greater than 7 days require additional approval
• Assignment lengths of 13 to 26 weeks will be considered
• Block scheduling accommodations available
• Travelers may be required to participate in natural disaster or emergency response activities
