Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment at a Level 2 trauma acute care hospital, requiring NE or compact RN licensure and ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Details

• ICU setting within an acute care, Level 2 trauma hospital
• 33-bed unit with an average daily census of 16
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2-3 for adult patients
• Treats trauma, cardiac, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker, stroke, vascular, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress cases
• RNs required to titrate drips including cardiac, insulin, and sedation medications
• RNs manage respiratory equipment ranging from nasal cannula to ventilators for troubleshooting
• Cardiac monitoring/telemetry required, including reading, interpreting, and documenting strips (GE monitors, with tele tech oversight)
• Nurse aides and Healthcare Support techs available based on census, techs scheduled M-F 0800-1630
• Uses EPIC EMR
• 12-hour night shifts, 0630-1830 and 1830-0630 rotation
• Self-scheduling for core staff, with travelers added in; block scheduling not guaranteed
• Weekend requirement of every other weekend
• Floating primarily to PCU, occasionally MedSurg, at a 1:4 or 1:5 ratio
• On-call response time of 30 minutes if called back in
• 48 guaranteed hours per week

Requirements

• Active RN license (NE state or Compact/NLC) required, pending licenses not accepted
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required and must be active, pending certifications not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• BSN not required
• Driver's license required at time of consideration to confirm residence location
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
• No previous full-time, part-time, or PRN employment with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity

Additional Information

• Provide direct nursing care to critically ill adult ICU patients including trauma, cardiac, and post-surgical cases
• 12 hours of unit orientation with 1 shift of unit/department-specific orientation
• Pass/fail open-book exam given on Wednesdays during orientation covering skills learned, requiring a 90% score to pass
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove will result in contract termination
• Minimum of 2 holiday shifts required if holidays fall within the contract time frame
• RTO must be requested upfront, limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO requests after submission will not be approved
• Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
• Block scheduling only considered for weekends-only requests
• Duos requesting the same schedule or sharing a car will not be accommodated
• First-time travelers may be considered for this position
