Description

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse for an Emergency Department position at a Level I Trauma Center requiring TNCC, ACLS, BLS, and prior trauma experience.

Details

• Level I Trauma Center Emergency Department serving a combined adult/pediatric population
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• Average patient ratio of 1:6 for both day and night shifts
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call requirements
• Float within scope to other campuses and ED observation as needed based on facility needs
• Assigned to one campus with possible rotation to other campuses
• Travelers do not staff trauma/rescue rooms, triage, or locked behavioral health units
• Uses Epic charting system
• Open to accommodating block schedules
• Assignment length is 13 weeks with option for longer contracts up to 26 weeks

Requirements

• Active CT or compact RN license required
• BLS, ACLS, and TNCC certifications required
• ENPC, PALS, NIHSS, and CPI certifications preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; 1.5 years accepted from a Level I Trauma facility or with travel experience
• Level I Trauma Center experience required
• Level II Trauma experience preferred
• Epic charting experience preferred
• Teaching hospital and community hospital experience preferred
• Skills in IV therapy, phlebotomy, arterial line management, and blood product administration required
• Experience managing psychiatric patients, including acute psychosis, suicidal patients, and violent behavior
• Respiratory care skills including BiPAP/CPAP management and ABG interpretation required; ventilator care and intubation preferred
• Experience with emergency medications, IV vasopressors, and continuous IV sedation/paralytics required
• Neurological care experience including CVA, neuro-trauma, and spinal cord injury required; ICP monitoring preferred
• Cardiac monitoring skills including dysrhythmia interpretation/management and 12-lead EKG acquisition required
• Experience managing shock/trauma cases including gunshot wounds and traumatic amputations
• Ability to apply splints required; ortho trauma experience preferred
• 1 professional reference required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide emergency nursing care within a Level I Trauma Center at a large academic medical center
• Participate in natural disaster or emergency response activities as needed
• Flu vaccine required with no declinations accepted
• COVID vaccine and booster required, with religious or medical exemptions only
• RTO requests up to 7 days can be auto-approved; requests beyond 7 days require additional approval
• Local candidates not accepted; candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Former staff must have been separated from the facility for at least 2 years to be eligible as a traveler
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
