Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week acute care assignment requiring 2+ years of ICU experience and NE or compact RN licensure.

Details

• Level 2 Trauma acute care ICU setting with 33 beds and an average daily census of 16
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2-3 for adult patients
• Treats trauma, cardiac, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress cases
• RNs required to titrate drips including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation
• Nurse aides and Healthcare Support techs available based on census to assist with 1:1 monitoring and floor support
• RNs manage respiratory equipment ranging from nasal cannula to ventilators, troubleshooting as needed
• Cardiac monitoring/telemetry required including strip reading, interpretation, and documentation, with tele tech oversight (GE monitors)
• 12-hour day shifts scheduled 0630-1830
• Self-scheduling available for core staff with travelers added in; block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
• Floating required, typically to PCU and occasionally MedSurg, at similar 1:4 or 1:5 ratios
• Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday)
• Minimum of 2 holidays within the contract timeframe required
• Uses EPIC EMR

Requirements

• Active RN license (NE state or Compact) required, pending licenses not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Must be willing and able to titrate cardiac, insulin, and sedation drips
• Experience with cardiac monitoring/telemetry interpretation required
• Driver's license required at time of consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

• Provide direct ICU nursing care including drip titration, respiratory equipment management, and cardiac monitoring
• One shift of unit/department-specific orientation provided
• 12 hours of general orientation included in the assignment
• RNs complete a pass/fail open-book exam on Wednesdays during orientation, covering skills taught in orientation, requiring a 90% score to pass
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove them will result in contract termination
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified via driver's license
• Candidates may not have been employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI or Dignity) within the past year; PRN employment through outside firms is acceptable
• Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved once the assignment begins
• Facility may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment (3 shifts for shorter assignments)
• On-call staff must be able to arrive within 30 minutes if called back in
