Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a Level 2 trauma center with night shift availability and titration skills required.

Details

• ICU (Intensive Care Unit) setting within an acute care hospital, Level 2 trauma center
• Nurse:patient ratio of 1:2, with downgrade staffing at 1:5 for medical patients and 1:4 for PCU
• Common diagnoses include COPD, pneumonia, CVA, TIA, DKA, sepsis, CHF, STEMI, and neuro conditions
• RNs required to titrate drips including vasopressors, insulin, TNK, heparin, IV antibiotics, and sedatives
• Charge nurse present on each shift and takes an assignment
• Nurse aides/patient care techs available on the unit with ratios up to 1:20-24
• 24/7 in-house critical care coverage with E-ICU support staffed by nurse and APRN
• RT equipment used includes vents and BiPAPs; RNs troubleshoot as needed
• RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips
• 12-hour night shifts, either 0630-1900 or 1830-0700
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday requirements vary based on unit needs
• Floating required to PCU and Medical floors
• EPIC EMR used

Requirements

• Active RN license (State or Compact/NLC) required for the state of submission; pending licenses not accepted
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required and must be active; pending certifications not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Acute care ICU experience required
• Must pass a pass/fail open-book exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration, used to verify permanent address

Additional Information

• Provide direct critical care nursing to ICU patients including drip titration and ventilator/BiPAP support
• First week includes system orientation and onboarding, followed by 1-2 twelve-hour shifts of unit-specific orientation
• Navy blue scrub color required
• Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove will result in contract termination
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, as verified by driver's license
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit-associated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
• Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
• First-time travelers may be considered for this role
