Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele/PCU position requiring PCU experience and the ability to read cardiac strips.

Details

• Acute care Med/Tele/PCU stepdown unit in a Level 2 trauma center
• 32-bed unit caring for adults and geriatrics with cardiac caths, EP studies, pacers, ETOH, COVID/BiPap, general surgical with cardiac history, pneumonia, sepsis, and influenza
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5, occasionally 1:5-6 on nights, with PCU-level overflow at 1:3
• RNs required to titrate drips including Amio, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low-dose Dopamine
• RNs must independently read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips
• RT equipment on unit includes BiPap, trachs, and Airvo
• Charge nurse present on every shift and occasionally takes a light patient assignment
• Patient care techs on unit at a 1:10 ratio
• 12-hour night shifts on a 7p-7a schedule, with rotating shifts occurring no more than weekly
• Every other weekend and every other holiday required
• Floating required to all areas including PCU, Med/Surg, and occasional ER holds/boarding
• Uses EPIC EMR
• No call or standby requirements

Requirements

• Active ND or Compact RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Required PCU experience with the ability to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
• Tele/cardiac nursing experience required
• EPIC EMR experience preferred
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care on a busy tele/cardiac stepdown unit including drip titration and strip interpretation
• Assist with airway management equipment such as BiPap, trachs, and Airvo as needed
• Unit orientation consists of two 12-hour shifts before working independently
• Any color scrubs permitted
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility and not currently work full time, part time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility
• Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
