Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical Telemetry/PCU unit, requiring a valid AZ or compact RN license and telemetry interpretation skills.

Details

• Acute care Medical Surgical Telemetry/PCU unit with 30 beds across three 10-bed pods
• Patient ratios of 1:5-6
• Cares for surgical patients (total hip/knee replacement, small bowel resection, hysterectomy, exploratory lap) and medical patients (MRSA, C-diff, substance withdrawal, COPD, pneumonia, COVID)
• Telemetry patients presenting with chest pain
• Uses Cerner EMR
• Nursing assistants typically cover 10-15 patients; RNs take primary care of 3 patients when no NA is available
• Care for stable CPAP or BiPap patients
• Remote monitor techs support telemetry; RNs must be able to read their own telemetry strips
• 12-hour day shifts, 0700-1930
• Every other weekend required, Saturday and Sunday for dayshift
• Holiday rotation required to distribute holidays fairly
• May participate in low census standby rotation depending on contract
• Floats to Multi Care Unit, Pediatric unit for adult MST patients, and West Campus MedSurg Tele
• First to float

Requirements

• Active AZ or Compact RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• Minimum 1 year MedSurg experience required, telemetry experience preferred
• Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within two attempts prior to signing contract
• Must be willing to care for both MST and PCU patients
• Must be willing to precept nursing students
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical Telemetry/PCU unit, including reading telemetry strips and caring for adaptable acuity patients
• Charge RN oversees 50 inpatient beds spanning MST, Pediatrics, and an Acuity Adaptable MCU unit admitting ICU/PCU/MST patients
• May be asked to precept nursing students as part of unit responsibilities
• Unit and hospital orientation provided based on experience level
• Scrubs of any color permitted except camouflage
• Failing the dysrhythmia exam twice results in a 6-month do-not-use status for CommonSpirit AZ and Sacramento facilities
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year; PRN employment through outside firms is acceptable
