Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Medical Surgical Oncology unit requiring ONS chemo certification and NJ or Compact RN licensure.

Details

• Inpatient Medical Surgical/Telemetry Oncology unit caring for chemo patients, past/present cancer diagnoses, and inpatient hospice patients
• Unit does not accept patients with infectious conditions compromising the oncology population, COVID-19, airborne isolation, or peritoneal dialysis needs
• Patient ratio of 1:6
• Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
• Assigned to a home unit with floating to other MS/Tele units as needed
• Epic EMR experience required
• Every other weekend (Sat/Sun) required
• Every other holiday required
• Scrubs of any color permitted

Requirements

• Active NJ or Compact RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification required
• ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Provider Card required (Fundamentals course not accepted)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Epic charting system experience required
• Proficiency in IV therapy and infusions, including port access, central/PICC line care, and blood product administration required
• Chemotherapy administration and monitoring experience required, including IV push, continuous infusion, and oral chemo
• Experience managing oncologic emergencies such as tumor lysis syndrome, anaphylaxis, extravasation, hemorrhage, sepsis, and spinal cord compression required
• Symptom management skills for neuropathy, dysphagia, nausea/vomiting, altered mental status, and neutropenic precautions required
• Experience with psychosocial care including advance directives, hospice care, and patient/family education required
• Skills in chest tube care, colostomy/ileostomy management, Foley catheter insertion, and dysrhythmia interpretation required
• OCN certification preferred

Additional Information

• Provide direct oncology and medical-surgical nursing care, including chemotherapy administration and symptom management
• Care coordination with interdisciplinary and pediatric teams as needed
• Unit features 14 private rooms, ceiling lifts, and negative/positive-pressure isolation rooms for infection control
• Unit staffed by certified nurses specializing in cancer care and holds a national Silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence
• Flu vaccine required; declinations not accepted, though medical or religious exemptions permitted with mask use
