Description

American Traveler is hiring an ICU RN with a WA or compact license for a mixed medical/CV intensive care unit requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience.

Details

• Acute care setting in a mixed ICU (medical and cardiovascular) on the 4th floor with 24 beds
• Patient ratios of 1:1 or 1:2 for ICU acuity and 1:3-4 for PCU acuity
• Common diagnoses include sepsis, COPD, COVID, pneumonia, withdrawal, and post-TNK stroke patients
• Manages complex interventions such as CRRT, IABP, Impella, PA catheters, and Arctic Sun cooling for post cardiac arrest patients
• Cares for immediate open heart recovery patients, cath lab overflow, and post-surgical patients needing extended recovery
• RNs titrate all ICU drips including sedation, vasoactive medications, and paralytics
• RNs are responsible for setting up, managing, and interpreting telemetry monitors and strips
• Charge and resource nurses staffed every shift, with charge nurses free of patient load
• CNA support at a 1:12 ratio, with potential pulls for 1:1 sitters
• In-house hospitalist/intensivist coverage 24/7 along with dedicated pharmacist and respiratory therapist support
• Night shift schedule from 1900-0730 with self-scheduling reviewed by management in 6-week blocks
• High weekend need, including frequent Sunday shifts
• Holiday coverage rotates with permanent staff
• No call or standby requirements
• Floating required, most often to 4th, 5th, or 6th floor critical care units or to the ER for patient holds
• Uses EPIC EMR system

Requirements

• Active WA or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum of 2 years of ICU experience required
• Specialty skills preferred: management of Swan-Ganz catheters, Prismaflex CRRT, IABP, and immediate open heart recovery
• CRRN and PCCN certifications preferred but not required
• Driver's license required at time of consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

• Set up, manage, and interpret telemetry monitors and strips independently
• Provide critical care nursing across a variety of complex diagnoses and post-surgical recovery needs
• Work alongside a dedicated charge and resource nurse, in-house intensivist, pharmacist, and 24/7 respiratory therapy support
• Unit orientation includes EPIC training modules, an 8-hour onboarding and education day, facility tours, and one shift with a preceptor
• Candidates with recent EPIC experience within the last year may test out of EMR training
• Any professional color scrubs are acceptable
